Sabine Baeckmann, Artist and Illustrator

Meet Sabine Baeckmann, Fine Artist

Born in Berlin, Germany, Sabine is a professional artist working in a variety of mediums.  As she always enjoyed illustrating, she majored in medical and scientific illustration, and received a Bachelor of Science in Applied Arts from Pace University, and did her masters coursework in Art and Art Therapy at NYU. She was also fortunate to study watercolors under Norman Rockwell apprentice and renowned National Geographic Magazine illustrator, Pierre Mion for a number of years.


Sabine worked as a medical illustrator and brand designer in the medical and pharmaceutical advertising fields for nearly 40 years, but equally pursued her creative passion as a a fine artist and teacher. Over the years, her work has been honored with awards, and has been shown in such prestigious places as the Hudson River Museum of Art, at the Briarcliff Gallery at Pace University in NY, as well as at the Andre Shellingburger Gallery in California.


After moving to Colorado, in June of 2002, Sabine had a one-woman show in September 2003 at the Pagosa Springs Arts Council Gallery, and then again in 2010 with author A. John Graves, showcasing their Animal Verses for Grown-Up Children book project. In 2011 she returned to NYS, where she freelanced as a designer, and later became the Evans NY Art Guild's President for three years.

Sabine has been a commissioned artist for several national public art projects, including 2005 San Juan Mountains Association Pumas on Parade; 2006 International Parade of Cows – Denver; the Cat’n Around Catskill project since 2007 (the most requested artist, commissioned for 35 kitties to date!); 2018 Hoot of the Owl project in Coxackie, NY, and most recently; for the 2019 Airlie Gardens HeArt of the Gardens Art Exhibit in Wilmington, NC. Sabine has recently been invited to be a featured artist in the April, May & June issues of House & Garden Magazine.


Sabine is currently teaching painting and illustration privately, and also works as a web/print designer. She is a resident artist here at ArtExposure, as well as a member of the Wilmington Art Association, partici-pating at local art shows and exhibits. You can contact her at [email protected]
